 Nick Saban, one of the greatest football coaches of all time, announces Retirement after 17 Seasons at Alabama 

Nick Saban ,head coach of Alabama football is retiring from his post after 17 seasons leading the Crimson Tide. Saban’s coaching career is largely considered to be among the best in college football history.

Saban stated that “The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me.We have cherished every second of our 17 years as Alabama’s head coaches and our integration into the Tuscaloosa community.It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it’s about the legacy and how we went about it. “Since the players were a part of the program, the objective has always been to help them produce more value for their future, be the best players they could be, and succeed more in life.Hopefully, we have succeeded in doing so, and Alabama will always be our home.” He added.

For 28 years Saban held the position of head coach at Toledo (1990), Michigan State (1995-99), LSU (2000-04) and Alabama (2007-23). During those 28 years, he won seven national championships. He earned his first in 2003 while attending LSU, and then he won six more at Alabama (2009, 2011–12, 2015, 2017 and 2020).In addition, he spent two seasons as the Miami Dolphins’ coach (2005–06).

Saban’s teams won three national championships during the Bowl Championship Series era and three more after the start of the College Football Playoff.The Crimson Tide teams led by Nick Saban qualified eight times in ten CFP seasons.

Saban established a 297-71-1 (.806) collegiate coaching record, including a 206-29 (.877) mark in Tuscaloosa.Together, his teams won 11 SEC crowns and were 11-1 in SEC Championship Games. They won two of those games at LSU (2-0) and nine at Alabama (9-1). In 2005–06, he also won 15 games while playing for the Dolphins.

The Crimson Tide has an overall record of 37-15 against top-10 teams since 2008. During Saban’s six national title seasons at Alabama, his teams have gone 21-2 against opponents ranked in the top 10. Over 15 years (2008–22), Alabama topped the Associated Press Poll for at least one week, breaking Miami’s previous record of seven (1986–1992).

Together with Frank Leahy of Notre Dame, Saban coached four Heisman Trophy winners, which is a record for the most in college football history. He is the first coach in history to have coached Heisman Trophy winnersm at three different positions(RB, WR, QB).When Nick Saban started at Alabama, the program had only six individual national award winners; but, since 2008, Crimson Tide athletes have won 60 honors.

His players have won 66 All-America honors at Alabama by 58 different individuals over the past 16 seasons. In addition to 46 consensus awards and 25 unanimous picks, eight players have been selected two-time All-Americans. In Alabama’s history, Will Anderson Jr. became the first individual to be named a unanimous All-American twice.

NFL players have also benefited from Saban’s success; a record 49 players were selected in the first round of the draft (44 at Alabama).More than $2 billion has been paid to his Alabama players throughout the previous 16 NFL seasons.

For the previous 17 seasons, Alabama’s on-field accomplishments have aligned with the Tide’s academic achievements. Since Saban took over in 2007, Alabama football has earned 656 degrees in total, including 103 master’s degrees.

The Sabans Nick’s Kids Foundation is a dynamic example of the family’s continuing concern for needy children.Since Nick and Terry relocated to Tuscaloosa, the Nick’s Kids Foundation has donated more than $12 million to educators, children, and children’s issues at more than 150 nonprofit organizations.
