In fact, more than 100 years after the establishment of Jaipur, this city was called the Pink City. Earlier this city was known only as Jaipur.

At that time the color of this city was yellow and white. Jaipur signed a treaty with the East India Company in 1818. With this, the era of modernization of Jaipur also started.

Since Sawai Jai Singh founded it, it was called Jaipur. In the year 1876, Queen Elizabeth of England and Prince Albert of Wales were to visit Jaipur.

At that time, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh of Jaipur was busy in preparations. The entire city was being decorated like a bride to welcome them. The city roads were being cleaned and flowers and leaves were being planted along them.

And the color of the city changed

Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh thought why not paint the entire city in one colour. Then he consulted the higher officials about this and painted the entire city situated in the fort in pink colour. After that the city became pink which later came to be known as Pink City.
